A councillor's guide to social media HomeThis is a featured page

THIS WIKI HAS NOW CLOSED

ONLY BECAUSE WE HAVE SOMETHING BETTER

Never fear - we're still working collaboratively. The content from this wiki has been used to develop Connected Councillors: a guide to using social media to support local leadership And you can still comment of the text here: http://socialmedia.21st.cc/the-guide/ - at the paragraph or page level - I think this is the first time guidance in local government has ever been published in this way - ensuring that stays up to date using your experience.

See the whole website here: www.21st.cc/socialmedia

The purpose of this wiki was building some concise guidance on how councils and councillors can use social media to improve services and connect with citizens. It has now been published in short hard-copy format and a more expansive and linked-up web resource.

Who can edit these pages?

No one anymore. This wiki has closed for edits and comments. But at the links above you'll still find a fully commentable version of this guidance.

The art will be to end up with a guide that is sufficiently informative to tell those that want to know, the things they don't know, yet also enticing enough for those who are sceptics or insufficiently aware to want to read, without going OTT. It needs to (somehow) be "An Idiot's Guide to Social Media" as well as (to quote the great Peter Townsend) "Eyesight to the Blind". Excellent start, however. It will be the nuances and the levels of detail that are important.
